the type specimen of Appalachiosaurus montgomeriensis, Bistahieversor sealeyi, the type specimen of Daspletosaurus torosus, the two Medicine tyrannosaurine, Raptorex, Alioramus, Tyrannosaurus bataar, and the type specimen of T. rex.
Also, the contact of the maxillary fenestra with the rostral margin of the antorbital fossa is seen in adult T. rex, not in Jane, Albertosaurus libratus or A. sarcophagus; and the ridge along the pneumatic recess of the ectopterygoid is seen in Jane and adult T. rex, but not in A. libratus or A. sarcophagus. The contact between the antorbital fossa and nasal is very long in Jane and adult T. rex, whereas in A. libratus and A. sarcophagus, if a contact is present, it is very short.
The medial postorbital fossa is in all tyrannosaurids, including adult T. rex.

I did not check off the red ink; I’m not sure if that was an oversight on my
part or if I haven’t actually made the changes.

laterotemporal fenestrae of the articulated Cleveland, Jane, and adult T. rex (AMNH FARB 5027) skulls.
12:03 pm: Expansion of the description of the bony choana
and addition of the palatine fenestra has brought the ms up to 304,908 words
and 1,015 pages. This isn’t the desired trend, but it can be reduced. Going
back to the choana to see if I can shorten things down.

10:38 am: Another late start to bemoan; I’ll read over the
choana and then proceed from there to the palatine and suborbital fenestrae. I’m
starting with a page count of 1,016; I’ll try to reduce that by at least a page
this morning.
11:57 am: Still at 1,016 pages, despite some additions. I’m
done with the primary fenestrae, now I’m moving on to the primary cranial arches,
starting with the postorbital bar.
12:24 pm: I just reached the dorsal temporal arch, and I’m
losing the battle on page count – after adding to the postorbital bar, it crept

the maxilla and found a couple of gaps along the way, including the joint surface
for the premaxilla on the nasal vestibule, and the entire intermaxillary
process! I’ll wrap those parts up on a return visit to the Burpee once my
entire proofread of the ms is done.
I still have not decreased the length of the ms by any
amount, but it has not exceeded 1,018 pages. I now proceed to the lacrimal.

the length of the base of the postorbital process than comparing it with the
length of the bone – suborbital height?

quadrate cotyle and joint surface for the otoccipital. I also found a loose
thread regarding the skull frame, namely, the secondary laterotemporal

hand. In the meantime, I’ll polish up some aspects of the description of mtt V
before proceeding to the red ink for the Ontogeny section.

nearly done, where in the short term I have to complete (1) the description of
the articulated skull, (2) add the pedal phalanges of ‘Petey’ (BMRP 2007.4.1),
and (3) take care of the descriptive loose threads that I had left to take care
of at a later time. I also have to read through the text to correct any
spelling or grammatical errors and edit it down to size.
After all of that, I then have several other tasks:
(1)
complete the photographic plates of the teeth, hemal arches, cervical and
dorsal ribs, and gastralia;
(2) add all of the figure citations to the text;
(3) add the table citations into the text;
(4) make sure all of the literature
citations are correct and complete;
(5) make sure the literature cited section
is correct and complete;
(6) draft the table of contents;
(7) draft the index;
(8) draft the rest of the figure captions;
(9) photograph the assembled 3-D
print of the skull;
(10) draft the color plates; and
(11) draft the suggested
cover illustration.

threads as can, based on the red-ink to the hard copy of the ms. It already is
clear that I have to make a return visit to the Cleveland Museum of Natural

Checklist for this Tuesday’s Burpee Museum visit:
(1) pedal phalanges of BMRP 2007.4.1 [11:43 am]
(2) description of the medial mandibular fenestra of BMRP
2002.4.1 [11:50 am]
(3) dimensions of the ventral temporal arch [11:58
am]
(4) check to see if either of the 13th
maxillary teeth are identifiable among the isolated teeth, if not , include a
note in the ms that they might be preserved but cannot be distinguished from
the other teeth [12:25 pm]
(5) in caudal vertebra #1, check for foramina between the
transverse process and the prezygapophysis: present
(6) in caudal vertebra #10, get the length of the process
ahead of the joint surface of the prezygapophysis
(7) Check fossil for dorsal ribs with complete ventral
tips; if there is one, note which it is
(8) get length of pubic tubercle
(9) get height of pubic tubercle
(10) get max width of pubic boot
(11) clarify unexpanded form of the ridge that extends
ventrally from the fibular crest onto the diaphysis of the tibia
(12) check contact between distal tarsal IV and the adjacent
mtts.
